Revelin is a beautiful stone house for eight and is your chance to stay inside a UNESCO renaissance castle on Hvar island. A registered 4-star holiday home, Revelin is spacious and full of light with lovely, historic views of UNESCO Stari Grad. It is a traditional stone-built house with air-conditioning in all five bedrooms. On the first floor there are two double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. On the second floor there are three bedrooms - one double, one twin, one single - and one bathroom. On the ground floor there is a kitchen, a living room, a study and a further bathroom. The ground floor is kept a little cooler due to Revelin's unique location next to the renaissance fishpond. There is off-street entry and space on each floor and on the comfortable patio with BBQ for you to spread out. It is ideal for family groups. There are original features and quality appliances to make your stay special in the authentic old capital of Hvar - the oldest town in Croatia - UNESCO Stari Grad.
Part of the Tvrdalj Castle, Revelin was built by the renaissance nobleman Petar Hektorović, an important and famous Croatian poet. His writings, with their themes of the local people, the island and his home, have captured the Croatian imagination for 500 years. He founded Revelin in 1553 to shelter travellers, making it one of Europe’s oldest places of hospitality, all renovated in 2022. You can relax in the courtyard surrounded by pretty flowers, with BBQ and outdoor dining. Enjoy the views of the Dominican Monastery and star gaze on the warm Adriatic summer nights. This unique location is just across the main square to the sea and is located right beside the iconic Tvrdalj Castle fishpond (not a swimming pool!). You will enjoy gorgeous views but note the fishpond is not accessible from Revelin. Parking for Revelin is in a private carpark a few minutes' walk away.
It is our pleasure that Revelin is once again welcoming travellers and that we were awarded a Traveller Review Award in our first two seasons. This special house has its aristocratic roots firmly within Petar Hektorović's summer villa, which was our inspiration for its calm spirit and curated spaces to connect with the garden views. We planned the renovations to pair its 500-year old foundations with elegant modern details. We uncovered stone walls and added limestone features, hardwoods, modern furniture and antiques to blend with the traditional Dalmatian green wooden shutters. Revelin now strikes a balance between simple living and luxury. It is a holiday home that we feel has all the quality conveniences you need to relax, alongside a neutral décor and natural materials that connect to the easy-going lifestyle typical of the Mediterranean region.
We love that Revelin is between the hillside and the seafront, with the Mediterranean world on the doorstep, wonderfully traffic free. You can step outside for coffee under the palm trees in the main square, and walk along the seafront to discover the charming restaurants, pizzerias and bakeries. There are coffee and wine bars, ice-cream, supermarkets, a fish market, a children's playground, a park, and outdoor cinema. We while away time on the local beaches, reached by relaxing on a taxi boat or a walk/cycle along the marina to watch yachts and sunsets.
Experience the charm of tradition in the centre of the lively 2400-year-old UNESCO Stari Grad, which has a large cultural event calendar every summer and celebrates its patron saint on the 16th August with a free concert on the square and fireworks. Visit the medieval old town, with its narrow cobbled streets, souvenir shops and galleries. Out of town, visit dazzling beaches such as Tiha, Dubovica, Milna, Zarace that you can reach by car, good public transport links or rent a boat. It is also wonderful to discover the peace of the UNESCO Stari Grad Plain by bike, the best preserved Ancient Greek agricultural landscape in the Mediterranean. To round off your day, you have a choice of restaurants. Stari Grad is a still-without-the-crowds summer destination. Revelin is a culturally unique way to experience Hvar island, the only island in the world with six UNESCO heritage awards.
For its sunshine, its bays tucked next to ancient landscapes of olives, vines and lavender, and its way of life, Hvar is the most celebrated island in Croatia. It is a privilege for us to be part of Stari Grad 'the Old Town', recognised by UNESCO World Heritage. The fascinating life of the island is appreciated in respect of a certain art of living, loving nature, respecting it, taking an interest in the locality, with its 2400-year-old traditions, taking the time to discover the UNESCO Stari Grad Plain and its produce.
