Our local attractions include Altamont house and gardens (14 mins), Walt Disneys ancestors graveyard (7 mins), Brownshill Portal Tomb (11 mins), Huntington Castle and gardens (17 mins), Mount Leinster (30 mins), Ducketts Grove House and Gardens (17 mins). In addition to the aforementioned local attractions you may want to play golf in nearby Mount Wolseley Hotel and Golf Course. Bunclody and Borris Golf Clubs are only 22 minutes and 26 minutes away also . Fishermen will be aware that we boast of 3 main rivers locally ; the River Barrow , the Slaney and the Burren . Visit the River Barrow in Carlow Town or at Milford Mills. The River Barrow is renowned as a coarse and game angling river for bream , roach , dace , hybrids , Rudd, perch and pike , brown trout , sea trout and salmon . The Slaney is known for its trout and salmon fishing and our very local Burren is known for its trout fishing . It’s an ideal getaway for hill walkers and hikers who can enjoy Mount Leinster Trails namely the Nine Stones Walk , the Kilbrannush Loop and Slievebawn Mountain. For the kids , they can enjoy many attractions and events at Rathwood (15 mins) whilst also offering shopping and restaurant for all. Check out the Chocolate Garden of Ireland next door to Rathwood where the kids can play and take part in chocolate figure making sessions . The Arboretum Home and Garden Centre (15 mins) also offers gardens , shopping, retail and restaurant.
