The School House is an established holiday rental cottage, with numerous excellent reviews. There is unlimited wifi broadband! It is a beautiful holiday cottage located in a breath taking location in Muckross, on the Wild Atlantic Way, 2km from the village of Kilcar and 10km from Killybegs in South Donegal. Slieve League, Europe's highest sea cliff is 10km away. Sleeping up to 5 people (may accommodate 6 on request), the property is located at the base of Croagh Muckros and overlooks Trá Lathar beach, a favourite for surfing enthusiasts, and Muckross Head. A five minute walk away is Trá Bhán, which is a tranquil beach suitable for swimming and family activities. The School House is steeped in history - as the name suggests, it was once the school for the local area!

My Grandfather was an artist who fell in love with the Donegal landscapes. He purchased The School House in the 1960's and converted the property into a holiday home. I grew up spending happy Summer holidays in Muckross. I live a couple of hours away but I have a local housekeeper who maintains the cottage and is available at short notice to assist as required.

There are 2 nearby beaches. Trá Bhán is a 5 minute walk and is ideal for swimming and families - follow the sign posted directions from the cross roads entering Muckross. Trá Lathar is located directly below the School House - this beach has strong currents and is not suitable for swimming but is very popular with surfers. There are numerous other beach options. Located on the Wild Atlantic Way, the area is ideal for walking and climbing enthusiasts. Croagh Muckros, directly behind the School House, is a relatively gentle climb for hill walkers – access from the view point corner after the School House for a more gentle ascent. The walk to Muckross Head is a must for any visitors staying at the School House. At low tide it is possible to explore caves at the back of the head land. Slieve League is europe’s highest sea cliff - trips depart from Teelin Pier near Carrick. If you are lucky you will be joined by dolphins, whales, seals or even basking sharks. Kilcar is 2km away - a few minutes by car or a pleasant 20 minute walk. The village has the principal tweed hand weaving facility in Donegal, with the 'Studio Donegal' selling high quality Donegal tweed products.
