As the proud owners of Leirulækjarsel, we, Eyrún from Reykjavík and Þórður, born and raised in nearby Borgarnes, have come together to embrace a slower, more grounded way of life in the Icelandic countryside. Surrounded by our cherished horses, we’ve found peace and purpose in running a small farm where the days are shaped by nature and the rhythm of the seasons. Our farm is home to a lively mix of animals, horses, sheep, dogs, cats, and hens, all part of the daily life that we love sharing with our guests. Selið Farm Stay Guesthouse is peacefully nestled on the working farm of Leirulækjarsel, just 15 km from Borgarnes, in the heart of West Iceland’s countryside. The landscape is shaped by low hills, where birch trees rise from quiet wetlands, and our horses roam contentedly through open fields. The guesthouse sits on a small rise, offering wide views over the surrounding farmland, with Hafnarfjall mountain to the east and, on clear days, the distant glimmer of the Snæfellsnes glacier to the west. Summer brings endless daylight and the cheerful songs of birds, while autumn and winter wrap the land in stillness and dark skies come alive with the northern lights, thanks to the farm’s remote location and clear horizons. The area is steeped in history, with roots reaching back to Viking settlement and generations of Icelandic farming traditions.

Selið farm-stay / Guesthouse is located at the farm Leirulækjasel about 15. km from Borgarnes town. The farm sits on a small hill providing excellent views from all directions. From the house, you can see two glaciers, mountains, lakes, and even Reykjavík city and Keilir mountain in the distance. The surroundings are green grass fields, small hills, and lakes, a perfect location for walks (hikes) and mountain biking. This area of Iceland is filled with history, for example from the Viking era. Egill Skallagrímsson lived closed by and the area has a large part in some of the Icelandic sagas.
