Skjaldvararfoss is an old farm at Barðaströnd. The summerhouse is situated in a beautiful location by the sea with a unique view of Breiðafjörður. The old houses at Skjaldvararfoss are few meters from the summerhouse and have been attraction of many photo shooters in recent years. We want to ask people NOT to enter the old houses because it can be dangerous. We don´t want any accidents. The dream is to make up some of the old houses and make their surroundings more tidy. The beautiful beach is just a few meters away from the cottage, where you can go for a walk, make sand castles and find beautiful shells. Sometimes you can see seals swimming in the sea in front of the house. We know that the weather in Iceland can change fast but that does not have to spoil the vacation. If the weather is good it is great to make a barbecue and eat outside, but if there is wind or rain outside you can make the meal inside. Than it is cosy to lie on the couch and listen to the sea, you can also put some wood in the kamina, read a book or play cards.

The hosts are farmers on a farm called Breiðilækur 2 km away from Skjaldvararfoss, they keep 80-90 cattle of which 30 lactating cows. There are also few sheep and a few chickens on the farm. Kristján is a carpenter and works with it in a side-work, but Elín has recently learned tanning skins.

The closest grocery is at Patreksfjörður, 30km. further west. There you can also find café, restaurants, swimmingpool and apotek. If you are staying for few days and want to see more than our beautiful view you can drive further west to see Látrabjarg. If you want to see the beautiful waterfall Dynjandi you drive east, turn to left at Flókalundur and drive over the mountain Dynjandisheiði. It takes about 50 minutes to drive to Dynjandi, the road is not good over Dynjandisheiði so drive carefully.
