The most interesting cultural sites to visit are two: Villa Floridiana and the Certosa di San Martino, dominated by Castel Sant’Elmo Villa Floridiana has a fascinating history, as it was purchased by Ferdinand IV of Bourbon to offer a home away from the official residences to his beloved morganatic wife, Lucia Migliaccio. Today Villa Floridiana houses the Duca di Martina National Museum of Ceramics, and is full of decorative works dating back to the second half of the nineteenth century. The Monumental Complex of the Certosa di San Martino, on the other hand, is a splendid example of Baroque architecture, which houses another important cultural center: the Museum of San Martino.
