"Casa a scale" is a relaxing, quiet sanctuary just steps away from the hustle and bustle of historic Sulmona but also a great base for exploring Abruzzo. From street level you enter through the front door before going up a flight of antique stone stairs to the open living area with old terracotta tiles and stone walls. Here you will find a small kitchen, good sized dining table, a small sitting area in font of the fireplace and a balcony thru the tall doors. On this floor is also a small utility room with a toilet, sink and tiny washing machine. Head up the flight of stairs to the second floor that has two bedrooms and one bathroom. Bedroom one is furnished with a double bed, side tables, dresser, closet and tall window/doors that go out to a tiny Juliette balcony. Bedroom two is a cozy room furnished with a double bed, side tables, a wardrobe with small section to hang clothes and many shelves, there is also a window ideal for letting in some light and breeze. The bathroom is equipped with a shower, sink, toilet and bidet. Go up the spiral staircase to a little room under the roof that has a single bed, and wardrobe with space for hanging clothes and a wooden desk and chair. Walk through this room to a half bedroom equipped with sink, toilet and bidet. Up on this third floor are two small windows with peek-a-boo views of the near by cathedral and mountains in the distance. Recommend parking - Santa Chiara Parking Lot is covered and gated; 2 minute walk to house.

The area of Sulmona where Casa a Scale sits is historic and charming. It is full of lively restaurants and unique shops. Eateries that are no more than a 2 minute walk from our front door that we enjoy visiting are, Trattoria Don Ciccio, Ristorante Buonvento, Ristorante Gino (Wonderful lunch only.) All these neighborhoods restaurants have excellent food and reservations are recommended. Some of the fantastic and convenient neighborhood shops and things to do just steps from the townhouse are; Soldo di Cacio a Salumi, Formaggi, vini e Specialita Varie and Teatro Opera Dei Pupi Italici (puppet theater.) We like this quiet location just a short 5 minute walk to Piazza Garibaldi and Aqueduct where you can find many eateries such as bars, pizzeria, gelaterias, restaurants, bakery, tea shop, as well as Pharmacy, Optometrist, clothing and shoe shops, fruit and vegetable shops and water to fill up your water bottles. On Wednesdays and Saturdays is the great outdoor market at the Piazza...you don't want to miss it! Sulmona in general is great for walking and window shopping. Walk down Corso Ovidio to Piazza XX Settembre and the statue of Ovidio; see many more shops, restaurants and attractions including Confetti shops. Our favorite bar for morning caffé and cornetto is Risto Bar Caffe Nero Bollente about a three minute walk in the directionof Porto Napoli, they also have a nice lunch! Just across the street from Porto Napoli is Tigre Amico Supermercato a great market for all the essentials is.
