The municipality of Altavilla Milicia is located in the Sicily region in the province of Palermo and has about 5,200 inhabitants. Constructed in the 17th century on a previous urban settlement by the Marquis of Sambuca Beccadelli, the town is named after the Altavilla family, who drove the Arabs out of Sicily. Several centuries later, 'Milicia' was added to distinguish the town from others. From the 6th to the 11th of September every year, the feast of the Most Holy Maria di Laurentana, the patron saint of Altavilla Milicia, is celebrated. Must Visit: The entire coastal area with beautiful free and equipped beaches with pebbles or golden sand as you move east. The mountainous area boasts various protected ecological wooded zones. In a strategic and extraordinarily beautiful position stand the two most important buildings of Altavilla Milicia. Indeed, perched on a cliff overlooking the sea, are the Baronial Palace and the Mother Church; the latter is dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto and is a destination for numerous pilgrimages. Both buildings were constructed in the 17th century.
