Tenuta Cantona is the close neighbor of the Castle of Casole, the "retreat," since the 1200s, of dukes, princes, nobles, and high prelates. They left the nearby Castle to fully embrace the peace and silence, gazing at the magnificent surrounding hills (the "Montagnole senesi") and the Berignone forest. They resided on the upper floors, sharing their daily life with the farmers and livestock keepers on the ground floor. Rich in water, crossed by the Senna and Sennate streams, caressed by the gentle winds that weave through the hills and render the air particularly salubrious, it was chosen by health authorities in the 1950s to breed the finest livestock.
