We are a group of local farmers and members of the local community cooperative (Dana Cooperative). Our families have lived in the Dana area for hundreds of years. We are from the Ata'ta tribe and until recent years were Bedouin farmers.
We have created the camp in a way that is sensitive to the natural environment and local heritage. This has allowed the land to remain within the families that have owned and protected it for centuries.
Our camp provides work opportunities and work experience for local people, and profits go back to the local community. By choosing to stay with us, you are helping local residents foster community owned, sustainable tourism. In return, we will lavish you with traditional Bedouin hospitality, in a unique and memorable setting.
We look forward to sharing our heritage with you.
Dana Village Camp perches at the very start of Wadi Dana (Dana valley) in a spectacular location. It is set into the mountainside above old orchards, and is 1 km from the 15th century, Ottoman mountain village of Dana which is unique in Jordan.
The camp and village are at the edge of the Dana Nature Reserve which runs along the Great Rift Valley. The Reserve sustains 4 eco-systems, and is home to 45 mammal species, over 800 plant species and 215 bird species. Many species are globally endangered. There are also 99 archaeological sites evidencing thousands of years of human activity.
Hiking is the best way to see wildlife, and to experience the dramatic landscapes made up of different layers of stone (basalt, sandstone, limestone and granite). There are many stunning hikes, and the 14 km trail through Wadi Dana to the archaeological sites of Feinan in Wadi Araba starts at the edge of the village.
Add a stay in Dana to your itinerary and experience the diversity and magnitude of the Dana Nature Reserve, and if you are feeling adventurous hike from Dana to Petra with one of our guides.
Dana village is about 200 km south of Amman and is only 60 km north of Petra.
