We launched SEN.RETREAT as a lodging brand where travelers walking the Kumano Kodo can stay and walk with peace of mind. This time, we have opened our third location—an ideal base for starting your journey from Takijiri-oji, which helps you avoid the crowds at Kii-Tanabe Station and enjoy a more comfortable walk. Together with our existing locations in Takahara and Chikatsuyu, we look forward to welcoming you across all three bases. SEN.RETREAT was born out of a desire to address pressing local challenges, such as the declining population and shortage of successors to manage lodging facilities in each village. Our goal is to help preserve the environment and culture of walking the Kumano Kodo for future generations. To support this vision, we operate our lodgings sustainably as unmanned accommodations, without on-site reception or permanent staff. Together with our dedicated team from various regions, we strive to offer each guest a comfortable and memorable stay—while ensuring the continued legacy of the Kumano Kodo trail. SEN.RETREAT TAKIJIRI opened in June 2025, inspired by the many travelers we saw boarding early morning buses from Kii-Tanabe Station to begin their pilgrimage at Takijiri-oji. Wishing to offer both support and meaningful moments for these journeys, we have opened our accommodation. We offer two types of lodging plans: Whole-Villa Plan: Ideal for groups of 6 to 16 guests, this plan offers exclusive use of the entire facility. Private Room Plan: Four private rooms are available for individual groups of 2 to 4 guests. Common areas such as the living room and laundry facilities are shared with other guests. " Nature at Your Doorstep Behind the lodge lies a tranquil natural setting with lush mountains and a clear stream flowing nearby. No matter the season, the riverside offers a calming place to relax. To access the river, please exit from the first-floor side door, follow the ramp down, and turn left—you'll find an easy path down to the water. Please note: To help preserve the river environment, BBQs and open fires along the river are strictly prohibited. Kumano Kodo Information Center Located just across from Takijiri-oji, the Kumano Kodo-kan is a visitor center offering insights into the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage and the cultural and historical background of Nakahechi Town.
