I am a Hiriketiya local and a marine biologist. I myself was molded by this beautiful Hiriketiya bay. Having just completed my masters in marine biology, I have been diving in each nook and crook. So, I am glad to share my tips when you are staying at my home. For my master research (M.Phil), I conducted a research project on taxonomy and distribution of sea urchins of Sri Lanka and published in peer reviewed journal. I got a training on echinoid systematics at the Natural History Museum Vienna in Austria, which led me to publish a monograph on the taxonomy and distribution of irregular echinoids from Sri Lanka in Zootaxa journal. I have recorded several irregular sea urchins from Hiriketiya bay and some of them were new records for Sri Lanka, as such I decided the name “Sand Dollar House” for my place. My current researches focus on coral reef ecology. Along with snorkeling and scuba diving, I have a passion for studying life under the sea.

Dickwella is surrounded with both natural and human made wonders. Kudawella Hummanaya (blow hole/marine geyser) is considered one of the largest blow hole in the world, which is located around 4 km from my place. Wewurukannala Buddha statue is one of the biggest sitting Buddha statues with 160ft high, which is located around 3 km away. We can organize tuk tuk hire to visit surrounding tourist destinations. Scooters can be rented short and long term.
