Originally born in the south of the Netherlands I moved to Utrecht (the heart of Holland) for work 20 years ago. I immediately fell in love with the city and its rich History and still feel like I am a tourist here myself. The house I live in, and that now hosts the B&B is in a late 19th century part of the town. However there are maps of Utrecht on which there is already an abbey at this location (founded in 1200AD). When building a shed in the garden we excavated remains of walls of the old abbey. The old walls we used to construct a new garden wall. Look down into the garden and see the remains of the old abbey. I traveled a lot before I had children. Europe, Turkey, South America, Mexico, Africa. In Europe I often went by bicycle. When at home I like to imagine I am on a holiday. For this Utrecht has a lot to offer since there are inhabitants of all parts of the world. Especially the Utrecht University is attracting a lot of foreign students. My way of enjoying other parts of the world is mainly through dancing. At this moment I dance Argentine tango and African dance. Other hobbies are gardening and canoeing.

In 2012 Lonely Planet put Utrecht on the list of 10 of the world’s unsung places together with nine other towns: Triëst(Italy), Arras(France), Gujarat(India), Chongqing(China), Aberdeen(Scotland), Meknès(Marocco), Helsinki, (Finland), Jerez de la Frontera (Spain), Takayama(Japan)? A stone throw away from the monumental Wilhelminapark, Rosarium and Rietveld-Schröder house. The Neighbourhood is central for the University of Utrecht. Whether attending a seminar in the Centre or at the Utrecht Science Park (Uithof) or you are a parent visiting their child staying at the campus of the University College Utrecht (UCU), you can reach it all within 10 minutes cycling. B&B is close to freeways and 10mins on bicycle from central railway station. Traffic on the street is pretty low, due to one-way situation upstream. Neighbourhood gentrified, double-income-with-kids-yet-urban folks. Lots of bikes, lots of runners, lots of baby strollers. There are 8 trains an hour that take you to Amsterdam in 25 min
