De Krukel & De Boem are owned by Beatrijs Smulders and Roel van Dalen. Beatrijs is an independent midwife and founder of the well-known Birth Centre Amsterdam. For decades, Beatrijs was the figurehead of Dutch midwifery, in which home birth holds such an important position. She is also a publicist and author of several bestsellers, such as 'Veilig Bevallen' ('Safe childbirth'), 'Veilig Zwanger' ('Safe pregnancy'), 'Veilig door de Kraamtijd' ('Safe through childbirth') and 'De Meest Gestelde Vragen over Zwangerschap en Bevalling' ('The most frequently asked questions about pregnancy and childbirth'). She is currently writing a large, autobiographical trilogy on women, sex and love. Beatrijs is married to the well known filmmaker Roel van Dalen. Renowed works of his are documentary series such as 'Een Koninklijk Gezelschap' about the Concertgebouw Orchestra, 'De Kinderen van De Hondsberg' about mentally limited children and the documentary 'Ajax: Hark The Herald Angels Sing' about the Amsterdam soccer club Ajax. Currently he is working on a film on Alzheimer disease and a documentary film project on his home town Amsterdam. Roel is also a musician. His first album 'Altijd gaat voorbij', with self-written Dutch music, was released in 2013 and his second 'Mijn Dag' in 2019. His third album will be released in 2023. Our two holiday homes on Texel are called De Krukel and De Boem. The gardens of these cottages border each other and are situated at the edge of the woods. Our cottages are located in a central spot on the island. The beautiful beach of Texel is a 15-minute walk away. The place is hidden behind the dunes and the forest, which acts as a large windbreak. Because of this, the sea wind passes high over our spot and it is always as good as windless. This is in contrast to the other side of the island, where it is very often windy. The clouds always blow quickly over the island, which is why Texel has more hours of sunshine than the rest of the Netherlands. At our place, the sunrays feel pleasantly warm early in the year due to the lack of wind. Our cottages are not standard holiday homes. Not high-tech, sleek and modern, but vintage cottages from the 60s, with a homely atmosphere, without the functional, often chilly furnishings that characterise many cottages on Texel. The cottages have a cosy interior, wooden floors and bookcases. Even if you only stay for a few days, we like it when you feel at home in an atmospheric environment.

A word about the sleeping situation: In the large bedroom, the 'master bedroom', there is a large double bed (hundred and eighty - two hundred and ten cm). The other bedroom has a slightly smaller double bed (hundred and sixty - two hundred cm). A maximum of four people can stay in 'De Boem'. You need to bring your own linen, namely fitted sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers for the large double bed (with a duvet of two hundred and twenty - two hundred cm) and for the other, slightly smaller double bed (with a duvet of two hundred and two hundred cm). You must also bring your own towels and tea towels.
