Port Fitzroy: A Historic and Scenic Harbour Port Fitzroy, located on Great Barrier Island, boasts a rich history and is home to Kaiaraara Bay—the largest inlet in the area. Known for its deep, sheltered waters, it offers safe anchorages for vessels of all sizes, including superyachts and the regularly visiting Spirit of New Zealand. The harbour serves as an essential stop for boats to refuel, collect water, and stock up on supplies. Especially popular during the Christmas and summer holidays, Port Fitzroy sees a surge in visitors from Auckland. Its calm waters also support aquaculture farms, while the surrounding landscape features numerous walking tracks managed by the Department of Conservation.
