Luxury Cabins on the Peninsula A unique accommodation experience, our three cabins are nestled on the cliff’s edge with unparalleled panoramic views over the Ocean. Beautifully designed and built, our cabins offer all the comforts of home in a truly breathtaking location. Enjoy magical sunsets from the outdoor bath, relax on the lawn or spot a passing whale or pod of dolphins as you sip on a glass high on the Kaikoura Peninsula. With a view like this, you’d expect to be miles from anywhere. Instead we’re just a short stroll to the beach for safe swimming or a leisurely walk into Kaikoura town.

Seth and Penny, the proprietors of Clifftop Cabins, made Kaikoura their home for their family in 2018. They live with their three children, Jack (11), Otis (9), Albie (4) and Floss Dog. The Dover Cottage property where the cabins are located has been in Penny’s family for three generations. For the first year or two they were in Kaikoura, Penny hosted guests on their property who were after a glamping experience, but then came the time to upgrade the accommodation and provide a more permanent place for guests to stay. As a builder, Seth was able to design and build the three cabins, understanding exactly how the cabins should look to complement the Kaikoura landscape. Penny then offering her eye for detail was able to turn the buildings into comfortable dwellings to welcome guests. The couple who love to host and entertain, understand that it’s the small touches that sometimes matter the most and have set about to create three spaces that are filled with everything you need to create a home away from home.

Just a short drive from the cabins is the town of Kaikoura, a bustling seaside town servicing a population of over 4,000, boosted by a thriving tourism industry. 2. 5 hours from Christchurch and the South Island’s largest International Airport, Kaikoura is the perfect destination for a long weekend or stop along your South Island road trip. Unrecognisable after the 2016 earthquake, Kaikoura now tells the tale of a town who has rebuilt and come back stronger and better than before. Made famous by its spectacular scenery and abundant sea life, Kaikoura has a number of activities to keep you busy while you stay. If walking’s your thing, the stunning Kaikoura peninsula walk is just minutes away, or for the more adventurous, you can head to Mt Fyffe for a close up of the spectacular mountains. It wouldn’t be a trip to Kaikoura if you didn’t head out on the ocean waves. Wether you’re bird watching, whale watching or keen for a dip with dolphins you’ll find it here in Kaikoura.
