Kikorangi Country Cottage sits on the top of a sunny hill on a lifestyle block in Taranaki, with rural views out to the ocean and across New Plymouth, offering a modern, cosy and comfortable stay in a peaceful, tranquil and private space. Best caters to guest group of 1 - 4 people (2 queen beds sharing), who appreciate the quiet, private, peaceful, simple rural setting; on sunny days the stunning distant sea views; the crisp night skies; though so close to the city. The rate is charged per person. When making a booking, please select the correct numbers of guests, including children (children are counted as guests, only max. of 1 child, 1 years old and under can stay for free), the number of all guests arriving must please be reflected on the reservation. No visitors or any unauthorized guests are allowed on the property unless extra fees are paid and pre-arranged with Hosts (guests’ honesty is much appreciated). When 5 guests are booked, a floor mattress and bedding will be provided (with a fee). When 2 guests are booked, for the purposes of preparation and administration, please inform hosts if you will use two bedrooms. The cottage itself has tiled flooring in lounge, kitchen, and bathroom areas - during cold weather, slippers or thick socks would make it comfy for your feet. The bed sheets and towels are changed after each checkout. Hosts spend a great deal of effort and long hours to clean, prepare and maintain the pleasant, spotless and comfortable living space inside the cottage for guests to enjoy; the glass doors, glass ceilings outside or outdoor space are cleaned periodically. Despite our best efforts, a stray bug or spider may wander in, and a whole spider web can be built in a matter of hours.

It has been a pleasure and privilege, this delightful, standalone cottage on the hill on this beautiful spot in Taranaki, has been hosting many happy, wonderful and appreciative guests. A few points listed below to note: This is not a resort; there are pylons in front of the cottage, and few may feel that this detracts from the expansive, stunning, and delightful view. It does not have air conditioning nor heat pump: it is equipped with a fireplace for winter, fans in summer; it does not suit guests who require a specific temperature or excessive heating. Some past guests have recommended this place for snuggling up for a few days and enjoying the great view and the pleasant indoor space; however, hosts do not recommend a longer stay, as New Zealand standard house structure is timber and plasterboard, not solid bricks, and during few extreme windy conditions, there may be strong gusts that might shake and rattle the house and chimney at its exposed location on the hill. If that happens, the hosts empathise, as they know the unpleasantness in bad weather but have no control over the weather nor the location. For this reason, hosts recommend that guests have just a short stay that offers them flexibility. The photos, taken mostly on sunny days, they accurately show the spaces and outlooks that guests will enjoy. Appearances may slightly differ with small changes of furniture, bedding, the seasons, or weather, i.e., on cloudy or misty days, you may not have the distant views; grass and plants may be lush and tall blooming in spring, but die out in winter; etc. And being rural, our water supply is from rainwater storage.

The cottage is in a rural setting (we do not get council services), yet it is close to town - 6 mins drive to Countdown Spotswood; 8 mins to Ngāmotu Beach, 9 mins to Back Beach; 30 mins away from Egmont National Park; 20 mins to Pukeiti Botanical Gardens, and the local Backyard Café is just 4 mins away. We have septic system on site, so we do not provide a washing machine at our cottage in order to reduce the environmental impact and chemical discharge to our land. There is a 24/7 self-service Laundromat (24/7 self-service, 172b South Road), close to the Countdown supermarket, just a 5-minute drive away from our cottage. The cottage itself, the deck and the grass platform in front provide a comfortable space to enjoy, whereas access to some outside rear parts and the garage is restricted as these may be works in progress. For safety reasons, Hosts ask guests not to access surrounding bushes, especially where the path is not visible; please do not access the east corner of the grass platform, where there is a steep bank (under the fern bush). Please also be careful: when taking scenery photos; when pulling car off or out onto the main road, as we are in a high speed 100km/h zone.
