One bedroom, self-contained apartment situated adjacent to the original 110 year old Homestead. Fully insulated, double glazed, with heatpump. The apartment has uninterrupted views of the mature garden of Redwoods, Camelias, and Rhododenrans. The Mount Hutt Ski field Summit Six Chairlift is visible from the garden, along with an abundance of birdlife. The Holmestead farm is a fully operational livestock and arable farm, located just 2.5 kms from the centre of the Methven Township, 3.1 Kms from the Ōpuke Thermal Pools & Spa and is nestled under the foothills of the Mount Hutt Ski Field. Plently of secure parking at door - with plenty of space for trailers if required. ( An adjacent shed can be available for one vehicle in frosty winter weather.) Grass tennis court. Free Wifi. Bruce and I (Pip) also live on the property which is a fully operational cropping and beef farm. We are close enough to walk into town for a coffee, but enjoy the private and peaceful setting nestled amongst exotic trees including 100 year old Wellingtonias.
We make the most of the 11 km Methven cycle/walkway circuit with its optional lengths and routes, the Mount Hutt Ski field and the plentiful selection of Pubs, Restaurants and Takeaways, and Methven's newest attraction -Ōpuke Thermal Pools & Spa. We also enjoy the Rakaia Gorge, Windwhistle and the Awa Awa reserve with their spectacular spots for short walks, boating and picnics.
Although only an hour from Christchurch by car, Methven is a hub for recreational activities: Ōpuke Thermal Pools & Spa , Skiing, Biking, Parks & Reserves, Walkways, ballooning, fishing, horse riding, rafting and the Heritage Trail. We also have Lakes Coleridge, Clearwater, Camp, and Lake Hood in easy commuting distance - and the Rakaia Gorge for fishing & jet boating.
Being so central it is an ideal location to set off for day trips to the movie sites of Mount Sunday (Edoras in The Lord of the Rings) and Castle Hill (where the Lion Witch and the Wardrode were filmed.) or make the most of the annual garden fetes in Mayfield, Geraldine and Methven, or the Methven summer school including upholstery, Oamaru stone carving, photography, cheese making and more.
