Kanuka Hill is in a secluded country setting just a 10 minute drive from Kaikoura. Located on an elevated and sunny north facing slope, it has some of the best panoramic views of the mountains available in the district. Sit back on the covered veranda and take it all in. The night sky is amazing and unspoiled by any street lighting from the township. Kanuka Hill is the perfect quiet and relaxing place to disconnect the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy a relaxing break to reconnect with your whanau and friends. Relax and enjoy an evening soak in the outdoor bath taking in the sunset or night sky. Solar panels with battery storage supply all your electricity needs, the building is not connected to the electricity grid! A log-burner provides the heating for your stay during cool weather with plentiful and free firewood. Cooking is via a modern gas hob, and a Ziggler and Brown hooded barbeque takes care of roasting, baking, even bread and muffins come out well! BBQ cookbook provided. There is plenty of level onsite parking for cars, boats and trailers. IMPORTANT Access to the property is via a gravel road through a working farm. At times there may be gates or tapes to open and close depending on where the stock are located when you visit.

We feel fortunate and privileged to own land in such a stunning location. Since building our unique and comfortable off grid house, we wanted to share this slice of paradise with others. For the first few years while completing the building and landscaping we have had private stays of friends and family. They encouraged us to open up the property so that other New Zealanders and international travellers can share this unique and beautiful space.

Local Walks Bring your sturdy footwear. There is a great traffic free (apart from the odd farm vehicle) hard surface walk from the accommodation. Walk back down the drive to the bridge, then turn left and stroll along the gravel road as far as the black gate. Return via the same route. Great native birdlife in the regenerating native bush beside the road. Just under a 4km round trip. Joggers can extend and go out to SH70 and back. As mentioned, a walk up the hill behind gives panoramic views up the coast and over the Kaikoura Peninsula. The Kaikoura township with many attractions is just a 10 minute drive away.
