After returning from an extended overseas adventure on our yacht, we were excited & motivated to build our Moko Hiwi Escape in Aotearoa-New Zealand, to share with other travellers & adventurers. Having left for 6 months in 2015 to tour around Europe, 2 years later, we sailed back into Marsden Cove Marina, having bought a yacht in the Caribbean!! How did THAT happen? Our blue-water experience prior to this had been a couple of seasons up to Fiji & discovered the sociable and friendly life style, meeting many like minded travellers on the way. So sailing back from St Maarten seemed a natural progression? The bonus of travelling like this, opened doors to land based travel, as well meeting everyone from fellow wind bludgers to land lubbers, all sharing their amazing lives & stories of magnificent places they’d been & the things they’d seen. We are both avid sports supporters with Rugby Union top of our list. Jevon has a playing and coaching history, while I still attempt to run around a soccer (football) pitch. Sailing hasn’t slowed up much, as we’ve recently purchased our Privilege 48’ Catamaran in Australia. A bit of a do-up , but hey, the house is finished now!

Our newly built Kiwi King Haven is self-contained studio, set on a private quiet hill, with expansive stunning views over Ruakākā & beyond to Bream Bay. It is situated away from the main dwelling and is incorporated in the newly finished American styled barn. It has a very comfy King size bed with ensuite, and is equipped with everything you’ll need for a relaxing peaceful private getaway. Wifi, aircon/heat pump, fridge-freezer, Smart TV, benchtop oven, microwave, bbq, kitchen appliances & more. The roof covered deck allows the perfect contemplation setting to breathe in the amazing vista while enjoying a nice coffee or a special glass of bubbly ! An outdoor bbq and entertaining area, exclusive for your use, offers an enviable vantage point too! With dedicated outdoor free private parking directly in front of the barn as a bonus. There is also a single foldout bed available by request. You also have the use of our communal spa pool and firepit, located very close by, especially nice on a cool winters night in Aotearoa.

With beautiful Ruakākā beach only minutes away and Waipu Cove a wee bit further, you are spoilt for choice for activities. Surfing , diving, fishing & swimming of course. There are several golf course a short drive away, and if scenic walking is your thing , then you’ll be in heaven here. The Ruakākā shopping centre is a 2 minute drive away, as are a variety of bars/restaurants to tempt every palate. From bird watching to horse riding, it’s all here for you to take advantage of. Waipu Caves Farm Park, offers a great experience with glow worms and while in that area, Piroa Falls is well worth the trip. We are located just 25 mins from Whangārei too, and all she has to offer. From the Hundertwasser Art Centre to the riverside cafes and shopping.
