Our boutique accommodation is located in a beautiful garden and truffiere in rural Appleby. River Road Retreat offers self contained accommodation and is very peaceful and private. An organic breakfast includes local produce and fruit grown in our orchard. The Retreat offers expansive rural views over a vineyard to the Western mountains. River Road Retreat is surrounded by trees. The Waimea river is just 5 minutes walk away. The Retreat is close to many attractions including nearby Moturoa Island (Rabbit Island) beach and the village of Mapua and Upper Moutere. With a choice of two bedrooms, offering King and Queen beds, we can accomodate up to four adults. The open lounge and dining room areas open to an expansive deck. There is a well-equipped kitchen and an outside barbeque area. Relax in the peace and quiet and enjoy the surrounding lawns and garden and the chorus of native birds as the sun sets beyond the mountains.

Rebecca Hamid and Peter Burton will welcome you and provide advice on activities connected to our boutique retreat which include: •Relax in the eco-retreat deck and enjoy your views out onto the vineyard to the mountains beyond •Enjoy the original art works featured throughout the accommodation by recognized artists including Toss Woollaston, Alan Maddox, Anna Caselburg, Laurence Aberhart, Scott Eady and more. •Wander around our 30 acre arboretum, truffiere and garden, and explore the nearby river, and the stock bank walks and tracks that run alongside the Waimea. •Sit quietly and enjoy the native birds in the trees and open spaces around the retreat–fantail(piwakawaka), grey warbler (riroriro), paradise ducks (putakitaki), Shining Cuckoo (pipiwharauroa), quail, pheasant, plovers, wood pigeon (kereru), kingfisher (kotare) and tui. •Drive five minutes to Moturoa (Rabbit Island) and enjoy the beach and inlet with a wide-ranging species of wading birds that inhabit the estuary •Walk, cycle or drive to the Waimea River habitats in the immediate vicinity; or ride along the stock banks that follow the Waimea River to the Brightwater village (30 minutes bike ride).
