A 40-minute drive north of Auckland and you'll find yourself on the picturesque Whangaparaoa Peninsula, offering some of the best beaches in the region. Outdoor adventurers will enjoy swimming, hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, and boogie boarding. The area's name is the Maori translation for Bay of Whales, as often Orca whales and dolphins can be seen entering the peninsula. Dotted throughout the peninsula are many safe swimming spots including Tindalls Beach, Stanmore Bay, Red Beach, Big Manly and Little Manly Beach.
