I'm proud to host a space that is off grid and free from many modern 'conveniences". If you're in the market for running hot water, electric lighting and a TV set you've definitely come to the wrong place!! That's not to say that comfort isn't achievable:) Your room will be clean with a comfortable bed, linen and candles available for your use. Your shared toilet is clean and tidy with a bucket composting system, quality toilet rolls and fresh sawdust for covering number twos! A small sink with cold water, soap and a hand towel for washing. A communal space is available with solar power for charging devices, an electric jug for hot water,(a large bowl too should you want a hot wash), a fridge for storing perishables, a three ring burner for cooking, kitchenware, crockery, cutlery comfortable seating and a dining table. You are welcome to hang out here or prepare food and take it back to your cabin if you want a little more privacy. No WIFI...however I am more than happy to hotspot you should your data be limited:) A basic but healthy breakfast is available every morning. I generally make a simple lunch and evening meal and when I do you are welcome to join me. I have seasonal produce available in my garden at all times and I generally harvest daily. You are welcome to help yourself to any food items in the communal area during your stay. Koha is appreciated but not expected Our general store is a ten minute walk away and there are great water holes even closer. If you are a couple booking looking for guaranteed privacy and the single cabin is not currently booked feel free to flick me a request to close it off. The cabins are close and share a toilet and seating!! The whole space will then be yours to enjoy! I enjoy showcasing an alternative lifestyle and sharing my little piece of paradise with guests. I love that I'm able to provide a safe space for travellers to rest from their sometimes hectic sightseeing schedule....would definitely recommend at least two nights if you need a good rest:) I am passionate about growing my own food and sharing a little love!

Guests enjoy the tranquility and privacy of the placement of the cabins! However, many also enjoy the communal area when feeling sociable as I also take wwoofers and friends and neighbours also drop by! Takahue Saddle Rd was once the main route from Broadwood through to Kaitaia ...the further you walk along the road the quieter until eventually you will find yourself crossing the river and heading up into the bush... great view from the saddle! They also like the central Far North location which provides a quiet affordable space from which to make day trips to all the attractions of the area! General Store and water holes are within easy walking distance. The Herekino Tavern bar and grill is a twenty minute drive away and serves good quality, reasonably priced fish and chips, burgers etc
