República 157 is located around 500 metres from downtown Porto, right in the vicinity of the historic General Headquarters. Close to the centre and at the same time distanced from the noise that typically surrounds it, the Guest House provides guests with the quiet interior of two of the building's seven floors, which is also the family home of owners Inês and its family. Having the hosts close by is an added value in terms of proximity and hospitality. The house offers four rooms of different sizes, whose common denominator is comfort and elegant décor. The building is the result of a project dating back to 1929 by the renowned architect Francisco de Oliveira Ferreira, a professional in the sector who left his signature on an emblematic heritage legacy in the region, such the famous café A Brasileira, that reflects the labour of someone dedicated to his craft and with the boldness of a devout avant-gardist, a follower of the Art Deco and Art Nouveau currents. Seen from the outside, from Praça da República where it is located, the property has the grandeur of a hotel on its façade and the comfort of an attractive accommodation space on its inside: one can witness the perfect marriage between antique and contemporary, combined in the present tense. These aspects are reflected in the architectural and interior design elements, with the use and preservation of wood, cabinets and some furniture. The staircase and its rosewood handrail are equally eye-catching. The opening of República 157 in 2018 was guided by environmental concerns in the services provided to guests, particularly in the water used, as well as the care taken to sourcing products of national and local origin and manufacture. Records players have been installed, with which the owners hope to offer visitors a better interaction with the spaces and a different sensory experience for those who rest, dream and wake up in a place that is part of history.
