The people of Sremski Karlovci are known for their rich wine tradition that dates back to the Roman period. The mild climate of Fruška Gora and fertile soil enabled the development of viticulture, and today Karlovci is the central point of the Fruška Gora Wine Route. The most famous wine of this region is Bermet - flavored dessert wine with a unique recipe, which was appreciated in European courts.
