Polona and Guy
This is a unique property in the small village of Goče, renowned for its seventy vaulted wine cellars. We have two double rooms available, each with a private bathroom, located on the ground floor of the house in which we reside, which are perfect for hikers, cyclists, and food and wine tourists alike.
We are Polona and Guy – a curator and educator, and a proofreader and cineast respectively. We moved from London in 2019, seeking a different pace of life. We lovingly renovated the house throughout the year of the pandemic. We created a whole new living space in the former
pigsty and added brand new bathrooms for the guest rooms.
We are slowly filling the garden with plants and meadow flowers to attract more bees to keep the six village beekeepers happy.
We have an adorable black dog called Doris, who loves everybody who comes to visit and is the toast of the village. We are always on hand to answer any questions, but you are welcome to interact as much
as you feel like.
Why Samson and the Lilo? Guy’s surname is Samson, and back in the day his dad went to a costume party dressed in his regular clothes, carrying a lilo (inflatable pool float). Everyone wondered what he was dressed as, and he simply replied:
“I’m Samson, and the lilo...” – meaning Samson and Delilah from the Biblical story.
Located in the Vipava Valley, one of Slovenia’s wine regions, in the listed village of Goče, boasting 70 wine cellars and plenty of history. The village has good access, and is a 10-minute drive from the
motorway. The area is a cyclist's paradise and perfect for long walks and hikes. 30-minute drive to Italy, 40-minute drive to the nearest beach. The adjoining region of Karst is known for its cured meats and underground caves. A one-hour drive from the capital, Ljubljana, and a two-hour drive
from the Alps and Croatia – you could ski and swim in the sea all in one day. Nearest airport is Ronchi, Trieste (45 mins) but Ljubljana airport is also not far (1 hour). Gorizia has two well-connected train stations, but the best way to get around would be by car.
