Meet Your Host at Binta Boutique Hotel Our team members aren’t formally trained in hospitality — instead, they’re chosen for their genuine Swahili warmth and love for welcoming guests. Hiring from our local community is our way of giving back by creating opportunities for unskilled but amazing staff who bring real heart to your stay. Please be patient if our English isn’t perfect; if I (Amalie) am not on-site, I’m always available to assist you. Binta means “daughter,” and we are quite a few daughters working here. First of all, myself — Amalie from Denmark — who fell in love with Zanzibar over 10 years ago (so don’t forget to get your tips from me; I’ve been there and done that, and can help you avoid the tourist traps). I speak English, German, Swahili, and Danish — and I’m still hoping to learn Italian and French! Sharifa impresses with her incredible cooking skills, and will make you feel welcome from the moment you step in — she can do a bit of everything. Faiza ensures everything is always spotlessly clean (currently she visits occasionally as she recently had an amazing little daughter). Zuwena, also known as Mama Osman, joined us with her beautiful smile and Umi, another sweet young lady just joined our team. You’ll also meet our friendly night guards who keep the hotel safe. And don’t forget to say hi to our fully vaccinated dogs, Ginja and Lui, and our rescue cat Luna — they’re always up for a cuddle and love making new friends! Also, lastly please note: we have two friendly, child-loving and fully vaccinated guard dogs on the property. Just let us know in advance. Nungwi has grown from a traditional fishing village into a lively coastal town, while still preserving its relaxed island atmosphere. Please note that some local roads, including the one leading to the hotel, are uneven and not always well lit—part of the area’s authentic, laid-back charm. We’re always happy to help with local transport or tips to make getting around easy and comfortable. **Good to know:** Water: There is no organised water supply in Nungwi, so we rely on a borehole for water. This means that showers may have a slight sprinkle of salt - which is normal throughout Nungwi. Electricity: Power interruptions may occur due to the island’s electricity supply. We provide battery lights and assistance whenever needed. With our prime location and genuine local setting, you’ll be perfectly placed to enjoy the magic of Zanzibar.
