Aloe Ocean Flatlet offers quality self-catering accommodation for a couple or single traveller. It is situated on the highest street in Betty's Bay, overlooking the bay, with stunning views of the mountain behind. Aloe Ocean Flatlet is well situated, whether you're a hiker, runner, cyclist, mountain biker, star gazer, or just looking for a relaxing weekend at the beach. Kleinmond, Betty's Bay, Pringle Bay and Rooiels form part of the Kogelberg Biosphere reserve and was declared in 1998. It was declared a World Heritage Site by the World Heritage Convention, UNESCO, in 2004. It has the highest plant diversity in the Fynbos Biome and is regarded as the florist heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom. Betty's Bay is home to the Harold Porter Botanical Garden which showcases indigenous fynbos and waterfalls in dramatic settings. It's a place where coastal life meets ecological richness. The bedroom window was replaced in February 2025 with a sliding window which can open very wide to let cool air in from the main entrance to the bedroom window or vice versa. This keeps the whole flatlet pleasantly cool in summer.

Jan and Julia van Leeuwen relocated from the unbearably hot summers in Pretoria to Betty's Bay in the Western Cape which has a much cooler climate during summer. We love nature and it suits us perfectly that Aloe Ocean Flatlet lies between the huge Platberg mountain behind it and the sea, within the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve in the Cape Floristic region of South Africa. Aloes are usually associated with mountains and seeing the ocean partly, led to the name of the flatlet. We enjoy short hiking routes, anything from two to six kilometres and we can hike from the main building on a different route every day of the week. Jock's Bay is a 7-minute walk from the main building to the beach where one can swim, snorkel and paddle ski or just spend time on the beach in very quiet surroundings, listening to and watching the waves break. Our hobby is to identify Fynbos plants and indigenous trees and therefore we also enjoy visiting the Harold Porter Botanical Garden which is only a kilometre’s walk away and which provides all this in abundance. The bookshop in the Botanical Garden sells excellent books about nature. We enjoy watching the animals that we come across in Betty's Bay like baboons, rock rabbits, mongoose and antelope. What we enjoy the most, coming from a noisy city, is the quietness of Betty's Bay with no sound of traffic! We do not have street lights in Betty's Bay and that means that we can do stargazing at night. Many of our guests have spent most of their time in the flatlet or on the balcony just to enjoy the quietness and the serene environment away from traffic noise.

The flatlet is within walking distance of a small beach, coffee shops, restaurants and the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens. The main beach is 4.5 km away and several other shops, restaurants, hiking and mountain bike trails within a short driving distance. It is not a beachfront flatlet but the ocean can be viewed partly from the balcony and lounge. The property is located in the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve and there is an abundance of birdlife and other small animals roaming around. We enjoy watching the animals that we come across in Betty's Bay like baboons, rock rabbits, mongoose and antelope. Stoney Point in Betty's Bay has the biggest Jack Ass penguin colony in Africa. At the last count there were about 4000 penguins! Big schools of dolphins, boats, ships and whales can be watched from the beach passing by. The whales pass by any time between August and November on their way to the bay in Hermanus where they breed. We also enjoy watching the birds all over in the Fynbos in Betty’s Bay.  It is the natural (or nature) experience of Betty's Bay and regaining the renewed appreciation of each other that we would like to offer to guests, especially couples, and hope they can appreciate it as we do. The only artificial entertainment that we offer guests is Wi-Fi and cell phone reception. We hope guests can appreciate that. If a guest needs artificial entertainment, they would be looking at the wrong place for it here. Wi-Fi has been upgraded for the flatlet to 30 Mbps.
