The “Protea chalets ” are set on farmland adjacent to Hilton College, this little protea farm sits on top of a hill and is only 5 minutes drive from the village . Guests marvel at the fresh mountain air and the sounds of nature around them. You can walk out the front door and explore multiple farm trails. On arrival you retrieve your key from the lock box on the gate and proceed down the avenue of trees to your on site parking.( Should you require undercover parking this can be arranged 100m away.) The entrance opens into a lounge, kitchen area. The lounges have couches and one of the units has a piano . The patio is kitted with a Webber braai and chairs . Should you want to sleep 4 in the chalet there is no extra charge, however you do need to specify before your arrival so we can replace one of the couches in the lounge with the other beds. This is an extremely safe area, but for your peace of mind, the chalets sit behind an electric fence. The Chalets have a separate drive way and access and back onto the farm house , where we stay. We are always available to assist you should you need anything.

You could stay 10 days at the Protea chalets and never repeat an activity. If you are a cyclist, you are on the doorstep of a some of South Africa’s finest off road bike trails. The midlands is renowned for river paddling, boats, paddles and advise on rivers can be obtained from the owners. Water sports are readily accessible at Midmar and Albert Falls dams. Fishermen are within 20 minutes of the best bass dams and 40 min from the best trout rivers in the country. The karkloof zip line tour is a must for the family . Pietermaritzburg is 20 min away and boasts go-carting, ten pin bowling and movies for fun on rainy days. For the golf enthusiast you could base yourself here for a weeklong golf tour :- VCC (15min) , Boshhoek (25min) , Gowrie ( 35min) , Maritzburg (20min), Howick (15min) . For the more adventurous there are skydiving and hang gliding options. For more sedate activities the midlands meander is internationally acclaimed, as it boasts more than 150 attractions from restaurants , historic buildings, arts and crafts outlets and farmers markets etc . Of particular interest is the Nelson Mandela capture site and the Legendary Howick Falls
