I’ve always been drawn to the sea — there’s something about the endless horizon, the rhythmic sound of the waves, and the salty ocean breeze that instantly brings me peace and happiness. For me, the coast isn’t just a place; it’s where my heart feels most at home. Sixteen years ago, my partner and I made this very spot even more special when we got married here. Since then, this beautiful stretch of coastline has become woven into the fabric of my life and soul. Sharing this special place with others is a true joy. Our holiday home is tucked away in the peaceful seaside village of De Kelders — a place where life moves a little slower and nature takes centre stage. Just 300 metres from the house, you can enjoy early morning beach walks, sunset dips, or simply take in the fresh ocean air with a coffee in hand. De Kelders is best known for being one of the top whale-watching spots in the world — and during season, you can often spot them right from the balcony! For the more adventurous, shark cage diving and boat tours depart just down the road in Gansbaai. If you’re craving some adrenaline on land, beach horse riding along the coast is an unforgettable way to explore the area. Families will love visiting Uilenkraalsmond, just a short drive away, with its tidal pool, supertube (water slide), and safe swimming area that’s perfect for kids. Africano’s Crocodile Farm is always a hit — offering close encounters with crocodiles and other exotic animals. Right next door, Groeneweide Restaurant serves up hearty meals in a farm-style setting, complete with farm animals and play areas for little ones. For dining and drinks, there’s something for every mood: Buitesteen Pub & Grill is a local favourite for casual meals and a friendly vibe, while the nearby café is perfect for coffee and light bites just a few minutes’ walk from the house.
