My journey in wine and hospitality has taken me across two continents, from the historic gardens of Leonardslee in West Sussex, England, to the stunning shores of the Bot River Lagoon here in South Africa. EXPLORING HERMANUS & THE HEMEL-EN-AARDE VALLEY Hermanus (30 minutes) World-renowned for land-based whale watching, Southern Right Whales visit Walker Bay June-November. The famous 12km Cliff Path offers spectacular ocean views, whale sightings, and connects to beaches, cafés, and galleries. The charming town features excellent seafood restaurants, a Saturday market, and activities including shark cage diving and coastal hiking. Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (20-25 minutes) This stunning "Heaven and Earth" valley is South Africa's premier cool-climate wine region, celebrated for exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Nearby acclaimed estates include Hamilton Russell, Bouchard Finlayson (just 5km away), Creation, and Newton Johnson. Most are intimate, family-run operations with restaurants and breathtaking views.
