Janine Roos is the wife of owner/viticulturist Tielman Roos, who is the second-generation farmer on Mooiplaas. They enjoy the outdoors and will be happy to share information about the farm, the wines, the fynbos-hiking route, the Bottelary Hills Renosterveld Conservancy (part of the Cape Winelands Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO registered site) and more with their guests.

Mooiplaas Wine Estate is a working, family-owned, solar-run farm, 21 km outside Stellenbosch, that forms part of the Bottelary Hills Renosterveld Conservancy. With this farm-stay, you can experience farm life and nature off the beaten track but also be conveniently close to town. The nearest supermarket is about 6 km away. We offer four self-catering units. The Spaarkamer, Voorkamer, and Vrijkamer are situated in the historic 1833 Cape Dutch Manor house and offer a unique combination of modern comfort and old-world charm. Each apartment boasts antique furniture, crisp white linen, and towels, a bathroom with shower, a sitting area with television, free WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen, and a private braai area. The Buitekamer is situated outside of the Manor House and includes two 3/4 beds, a bathroom with shower, crisp white linen and towels, a kitchenette, free WiFi, television, and a private braai area. (PLEASE NOTE: Linen and towels are provided in all these apartments at no extra cost). On the estate, we offer activities such as hiking, mountain biking (bring your bike), wine tasting, cheese platters, and picnics in the garden. The tasting room dates back to 1806, the oldest building on the estate. What is now our tasting room used to be a horse stable, converted to a rustic farm-style tasting room unique to Mooiplaas. The family-owned farm became the first WWF Conservation Champion in the Bottelary Wine Ward of Stellenbosch in 2020. This achievement acknowledges the environmental responsibility of their production practices including factors such as carbon footprint, effective water management, proactive water stewardship, and an environmental management plan that includes a conservation area that comprises 30% of the 243-hectare farm and the protection of critically endangered species. IMPORTANT: South Africa is experiencing electricity blackouts (load-shedding) daily. Mooiplaas has converted to 100% solar energy so our guests will have electricity 24/7.

The secluded and serene setting is a perfect base for exploring the Cape Winelands, Table Bay and False Bay areas, the Cape Peninsula, the West Coast, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. It is conveniently situated 21 km from Stellenbosch and 29 km from Cape Town International Airport. The closest shops are 6 kms away (2.8 kms from the farm to the main road).
