Mountain View Boutique Hotel dates back to the 1870's when it was known as the Commercial Hotel. It changed owners and managers a number of times and has been in the care of the Oertel family since 2002. Otto and Dalene Oertel were both raised in Lady Grey. They left to study, lived and worked in Pretoria, Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage and Wolfsburg (Germany) and were thrilled when they were able to purchase the Hotel and return "home". Renovations and maintenance started in 2002 and continue as they strive to keep the building in good shape and maintain the charm and hospitality of the Edwardian era while constantly adding more comforts and modern technology. While many accommodation establishments often find themselves to be in the dark or without water, they have clean, drinkable, water from a strong bore-hole and a back-up system that keeps the lights working. Most rooms get water from solar geysers with an element which means you should still be able to have a warm bath or shower even if the power was out for the entire day. Daughter Danél Botha took over as part owner with her father, Otto. Mother, Dalene is still involved but with a focus on Tourism activities.

Having a sundowner on the veranda can change one’s perspective of life forever. It is one of the oldest buildings in town and has a long and interesting History. The rooms are on-suite and vary in size from single to family suites. Each room is individually decorated and has its own character and style. There is sure to be one that tickles your fancy. It also has a Breakfast Room, Restaurant, Bar, Lounge and Conference Room. Beautiful antique furniture adorn most rooms and the feeling is clean, comfortable, warm and welcoming.
