Situated in the town of Umkomaas, well known for its diving on Aliwal shoal and fishing, we are a short walk to all amenities and a mere 550m from the beach. Umkomaas is situated south of Durban which is 44kms away. On low tide, there are many rockpools where children can play whilst the adults bask in the East Coast sun. The Indian ocean is known for its warm waters and guests can swim all year round. Our winters are mild and the ocean comes to life as the famous Sardine run sees millions of small little fish bring birds, whales, dolphins and other Predators eager to get their share of the massive shoals. Most years, we are privileged to have the shoals wash up on the beach and people from all over come to get a packet, bucket and sometimes even hats to scoop dozens of these fish. For the scuba divers, we see hundreds of ragged tooth Sharks migrate to Aliwal in a spectacular array, where they are docile as they swim past us. As a scuba diver and spearfisherman, being close to the ocean is something I don't take for granted. The warm Indian ocean ensures that we can be in the water all year round with temperatures ranging from 19degC to 27degC. A successful day is not measured by how many fish were brought home (thank goodness for that), but getting home safely after spending hours in the water. We love to read, although we sometimes catch ourselves looking longingly out to sea. We have folk from all around the world and love the privilege of seeing our guests leave more relaxed than when they arrived. We are always available to help wherever we are able to. Situated 44kms from Durban, we are out of the hussle and bussle of the city yet just a short drive, should guests wish to go and explore other attractions. We are also 60kms from Oribi gorge where guests can ride their bicycles, go on hikes or even take a leap off the gorge on their world famous swing. Closer to home, we are walking distance to all the dive charters, shops, restaurants and beach. We are ideally located for folk who want to scuba dive on Aliwal shoal, go shark cage diving or just go for a walk along our beach. We have a famous Italian restaurant directly behind the property with numerous restaurants close by. The East Coast Brewing Company is just across the river where live entertainment is available on Fridays and Sundays. The Lazy Moose is just down the main freeway with spectacular views of the ocean. Scottburgh is a beautiful swimming beach where you can hire a surfboard and learn to surf.
