Whistlewood a historic Guest House which opened it doors in September 2022, and with the now the lastest addition of our double story Garden Cottage which recently opened in November 2025, and allows Whistlewood to have more flexibility to cater for the needs of Tourists and Business people alike. Whistlewood originally the former hosts parents retirement home was loving renovated with permission of the Heritage Society and the Planning Department in 2022. Being a historic home and one of the oldest farmsteads in Walmer its blessed with lots of character in the form of high ceilings and stained glass , fireplaces and is decorated with an africana and vinatage ecliptic feel. Being nestled in a leafy surburb close to the Baaken’s Valley the gardens are also rich in bird life, and your host Jane is a keen bird watcher. The house is nestled in beautifully gardens and we are already in the process of growing an orchard, and have a wild meadow and living kitchen, which hopefully benefit those who stay with us over the coming years. We do recycle where possible and you will see this in our house decoration. We do try to provide eco friendly sustainable policies for our Guests to promote a greener future. Your host back ground is from Avatiation Industry where Jane enjoyed a 25 year career in customer service roles. We are a delightfully small guest house only offering 5 rooms , but it allows us to offer a intimate and personal customer service. Whistlewood is a beautiful heritage house built circa 1875 in Walmer . Whistlewood Guest House has 3 private Rooms on ground level and then a Seperate Garden Cottage that allows for a family suite catering for 4 and one additional double room catering for 2 both on the 1st floor which must be accessed by stairs from a farm house kitchen living area. All rooms are non smoking and the Double Rooms all come with platinum sized Queen Ex/ Length beds for a good nights rest. Both the Main House and the Cottage have their own fully equipped kitchens to allow for self catering, The outside Patio and Pool has outside eating areas and a Braai facility. Guests can also enjoy landscaped and extensive gardens to bring a feel of calm and tranquility and enjoy the bird life is rich with many trees, we are growing a wild meadow to feed the bee’s on our grounds over looking 6th Avenue. All our rates are inclusive of a light Continental / Vegan breakfast, which guests must make themselves from large farm-style fully equipped shared kitchen . We have 6 walkable restaurants all within a 2 to 12 minutes of the Whistlewood from the very well Know Hussar Grill which booking , a Sushi and Mexican , plus two Artisan Bakeries and Angelo's a family restaurant so all tastes and budgets can be looked after. However, for those who want to self cater a fully equipped Kitchen is available for the Guests to use provided. We also have a small beautiful historic function room which can be hired for Business or Training and can accommodate 8 guests for business or pleasure. We are ideally placed for inter sports school events being very close Grey Junior and High School. We are very close St George’s Cricket Ground and Hospital . For those needing relaxation or to spruce-up both a spa and hairdresser is in walking distance and gyms within a 15 minute radius. Back up water Tanks and Solar Power is available to hopefully navigate any disruptions in this area.

Gqeberha / Port Elizabeth is generally a small city, so easy to get about. Public transport is not ideal but their are many Taxi's and Ubers to see to safely to your destination at reasonable rates. Whistlewood is very centrally positioned for both business and international visitors who have business in Port Elizabeth, being close to the Airport and having easy access to the N2 freeway. If here for an event , we have a Hair Salons and Spa with-in a 5 minute walk from the guesthouse. If you into sport the Little Walmer Golf Club is not far away , although you will need to pay to play. If you wanting restaurant recommendations please contact me and I can send list to consider. We are nicely located next to the Hussar Grill so having a fine dining steak experience is only 2 minutes away. We are only 12 minutes to the beachfront by car. So if the sea and the sand is too much, you can you can relax by the pool at your own pace in a safe and tranquil setting. Port elizabeth is not far from many Malari Free Game Lodges , and day trips can be arranged to the Addo National Elephant Park , or to many Private Game Lodges .. full day packages start from R4500 with all transfers , lunch and Dinner with a guarantee of seeing a Lion.
