The hotel and owners were lovely and very welcoming. It is in a quiet village where you can enjoy the countryside and stay away from the very touristy parts nearby, but can still go see them very easily (less than 10 mins away from all the popular hikes, and you get a great view of the mountains as you drive towards them). The dinner menu is great and the breakfast is filling with lots of variety. It gave us a chance to try the different sorts of local cheese!

Beautiful property with a gorgeous spacious room. The staff was very friendly (even with a little language barrier); they were super helpful and kind.

Located next to the car-free centre of Appenzell, Adler Hotel is set in a beautiful traditional Appenzell-style building. We loved staying in this hotel! The hotel was close to the train station and in the center part of town. The rooms were very nice and very clean, and the staff was awesome as they were more than willing and even went out of their way to answer our questions and help us in any way they could. The breakfast was delicious with lots of great options to choose from.

Excellent building. Just how one would imagine a typical Swiss village house. I regret that I didn’t spend more time in the area. Good breakfast. Clean and perfectly maintained. I will definitely go back.

This traditional guesthouse in Alt St. Johann is just 500 metres from the Sellamatt Ski Lift. It includes a restaurant serving classic Swiss cuisine and offers free Wi-Fi in public areas. The entire area is a lovely place to visit. The restaurant has lovely local food with fantastic staff. Breakfast was another treat with great cheese, meat, bread, coffee and fruit juice. Highly recommended.
