The host met us upon arrival, gave us the door key code and showed us around. The condo itself was immaculate! It had lots of nice amenities like shampoo/condition, soap for the dishwasher and washing machine, clear directions for the kitchen and outdoor appliances, lots of dishes, coffee beans, tea bags, sugar, soy sauce, cream, olive oil and salt and pepper. Beds and the living areas were comfy. Pool, sauna and hot spring hot tub were a delight! There are no restaurants withing a 5 minute walk but when open, a convenience store we used for breakfast supplies, snacks and sake is one door up the hill and a handful of good restaurants after a 10-15 minute walk in down in town. I highly recommend making a reservations as there are limited options open in-town (although we did have a group of 7). Yakiniku Sakae in Hakone is $$ but INCREDIBLE - grill what you order (fish, meat, veggies, etc) in front of you on a hibachi. Wish we could have gotten into Kinosuke but another family grabbed their larger room before us. Also walked down from our place and then alllllll the way up to Gora Brewery Public House in Hakone (not the one in Gora) for great pizzas, beer and salad.

We loved how open and comfortable the place felt. It gave you a real experience close to how the japanese live their daily lives and in a traditional style place. We loved how easy it was to get in and the fact that it came with an onsen that you were able to privately reserve with ease.

Opened in April 2017, Hakone Kowakien Tenyu offers Japanese-style rooms with tatami flooring, an open-air bath or ceramic open-air hot springs bath made with Shigaraki pottery.
