We arrived when the kitchen was closed, but they brought us tomato soup and fish stew (both dishes were delicious). Breakfast was nice. The place where we went to see the puffins in the morning is 6-7 minutes away by car

It has everything you need, though it’s a good idea to stop by a store before your visit. The jacuzzi and grill are a great addition. The view is incredible. We also went on a short hike to the Heljarfoss waterfall. Also we were lucky – we saw a small whale twice.

The two hosts were fantastic, they made us feel right at home! Upon check-in, the owner gave us a tour of the entire hotel and explained the story behind their business and their family. Had some lovely talks with both of them throughout our stay and I loved all the personal touches they added to the decor of the hotel. They were extremely accommodating and even let us put a few groceries in their fridge. We made our own dinner in the shared kitchen and enjoyed it on the outside terrace while watching the sunset behind the mountains. The surroundings were peaceful and offered the most beautiful views. We even watched a wild fox come and play with their dog!! The kitchen was clean and fully stocked with all of the equipment you need. Breakfast was superb, they offered a wide variety of meats, cheese, cereal, fruit and even fresh bread baked by the owner's wife. Our room was spacious, had a separate/private entrace, large bathroom and even included an extremely comfortable couch to relax on. Their service and hospitality was our favourite part. This was the best stay in all of Iceland, and we are so happy to have met the hosts!

These holiday homes all offer a private terrace with barbecue facilities, in addition to a well-equipped kitchenette with free coffee and tea. Egilsstadir town centre is a 8-minute drive away. Fabulous cabin. So well stocked ( yoga mat for me, coffee machine for husband). Everything has been thought of to ensure your comfort. Host came to greet us personally ( a first for me and I’ve booked many places like this) and came to check everything was fine a couple days into our trip. Sauna and hot tub amazing. No where can be more highly recommended.

Set along the Seydisfjordur Fjord, these cottages are less than 3 km from the town of Seydisfjorudur. Each offers impressive panoramic views and a large terrace with an outdoor hot tub and BBQ. Loved the little cabin! Sadly, we had very little time to enjoy it. We got to the cabin shortly before midnight and were out on the road by 10 am next morning. Communication from the host was great! Easy key pickup, cabin was clean and VERY well stocked. Probably the best stocked I've seen throughout the trip. Some food items were for sale, and quite up-charge, but great convenience non less. We didn't need them that night, but there were nights earlier on our trip we would greatly benefit from it and gladly paid the premium price.

Set in a renovated farmhouse, this guest house is located by Lake Lagarfljót in Eglisstadir village. A beautiful old hotel with modern amenities, and an excellent restaurant. A perfect place to relax on the lake!

Hotel Stadarborg is in Breiddalur Valley, next to Road 1 and less than a 1-hour drive from Egilsstadir. Great breakfast, friendly receptionist, clean and spacious room with a nice view.
