In the centre of Matera, this boutique hotel offers a beautiful view of Matera. The room offers a hot tub, a king-size bed and a private bathroom. The room also has the option of soothing music. A very friendly receptionist who explains the whole exploration through Matera. Breakfast was also varied and delicious.

From the moment we arrived, we were amazed by the incredible care and attention to detail that has gone into restoring this historic property. Every corner feels special, and it’s the kind of place where you just want to sit, take it all in, and enjoy the magical ambience. The location is perfect for exploring Matera, and the valet service made everything effortless. We left our car at their partner parking and were picked up directly, which made the whole arrival experience smooth and stress-free. Even though the hotel is relatively new, it feels like it has been welcoming guests for many years. That is a true credit to the management and the entire team, who were warm, professional, and made us feel so well looked after. The food was outstanding, the cocktails were delicious, and the whole atmosphere was romantic and unforgettable. Relais & Châteaux should be very proud to have Vetera Matera in their collection. We are already looking forward to coming back and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Incredible stay - perfect balance between a luxury stay in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities, and exceptional experience/immersion which makes it different from all other hotels. You can "dose" it how you like: if you want to use this only as a charming boutique hotel, you can, as the location is incredible, service is excellent (shuttle service to parking lot, adorable staff, delicious breakfast and aperitif, great room, incredible cave thermal pool). If however you want to experience something different and take advantage of the immersive experience (and you are never pushed to do so), it's very well done and gives you a really different "stay" that you will remember.

The rooms were very comfortable and quiet. You are in the Sassi and centrally located. The owner, Giuseppe, and his wife, were the best! From the moment we registered online, he sent notes on Whatsapp to me telling us where to park, how to take the bus, directions to walk with pictures and instructions. All was very helpful. He got us dinner reservations at Pico and it was marvelous. I left my hat at Pico, and he arranged to get it with the owner of Pico…a great effort!!! Thank you Giuseppe for a great stay!
