Set in Pizzo, 300 metres from Pizzo Beach, Asterias Residence - Rooms & SPA features accommodation with spa facilities, a steam room and an open-air bath. This beachfront property offers access to free WiFi and free private parking. The aparthotel offers an outdoor swimming pool with a pool bar, as well as a hot tub and full-day security. We arrived in Pizzo on the last (or second-to-last) day of our trip through Calabria, so unfortunately we only stayed for one night. I say unfortunately because, first of all, Pizzo is a truly charming town and worth staying longer, and secondly because the hotel was genuinely excellent. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our flight home wasn’t until late in the evening, but we were allowed to stay by the pool and in the garden the entire day without any issues. They also arranged transportation to the airport and even let us check out a bit later than usual—all of this despite only staying one night. Breakfast was perfectly adequate and very reasonably priced. They serve drinks and food throughout the day in their lovely garden. The location is close enough to both the town center and the beach. We truly felt welcome and comfortable here.

Residence Porto Ulisse is surrounded by tropical gardens on the west coast of Calabria. It offers a rooftop terrace with bar, a swimming pool and a small hydromassage pool overlooking Tropea and the Mediterranean Sea. The accommodation was very clean, with housekeeping tidying the rooms every day. We had a ground-floor apartment facing the garden, so it was nicely shaded. The air conditioning was only in the hallway (kitchen), but it managed to cool both bedrooms—though it was necessary to keep the doors to both bedrooms open at night. The staff were very friendly and kind, and the bar had good prices. The pool was clean, with stunning views of the sea and, in the distance, the smoking volcano Stromboli. It’s about a 10–15 minute walk to the center of Tropea. You can also take a taxi or call an Uber. The nearby beaches were clean with excellent water quality. Breakfast was not included in our stay—we didn’t mind, as our children don’t eat much in the morning. For dinner, there was a pizzeria just behind the house, or restaurants in the center of Parghelia or Tropea. It’s a great location for many trips around the area, including excursions to Sicily and Mount Etna (by car). We would definitely like to return next year. Cosenza/Rende is a complex place (I have been staying in and around the city for many years) and Grecale is beautifully situated high above, near the university, about 6km from the Cosenza Nord-Rende motorway junction. The views are wonderful. The lodging is extraordinary : extremely modern, super clean, and with excitingly different lighting , a beautiful bathroom, and ample, safe parking. Very friendly and charming owner who had to struggle with my basic Italian for us to understand e o! Good tea and coffee facilities are part of the startlingly unusual room furnishings. My room had a fireplace, but it was 32°C so I didn't try it out!

Guests can relax in the garden at the property. The staff were excellent. I booked the stay for December instead of November by mistake so they were not expecting us when we arrived. Without any hesitation or fuss they quickly rearranged things and found us a spare room. The town in lovely and the facilities here great. We shopped for food and wine in the town them made ourselves a meal in the hotel kitchen area and used the fridge to keep our wine cold.
