The owner and his mother were so kind, they gave us many advice and news about the current event and matsuri. The house is a lovely japanese one with a nice view on the river. It was very big and comfortable for our family. All necessary equipment (bath, laundry, towels, kitchen..);and also nice gifts 😁. It also work like a small conbini as you can buy noodle, drinks whatever you need in the house.

The couple wrote to invite us to check in early at 12.30 and offered us a free tour with their father! The food was unbelievably top notch. Wine/alcohol matching if you wanted. Everything had been foraged in the mountains or hunted by a family member, or prepared from first principles eg miso. All exquisitely presented and served in a beautiful room. We had a bedroom with bathroom facilities but there was an onsen-type bathroom for those who didn’t. Just perfect!!👌 watch your head though as building is old and door frames and beams very low!

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The staff is so kind and the place is very serene. We had a good resting time in the very comfortable beds and enjoyed the bath and all the delicious food.
