The house was very comfortable, with all amenities and the parking space was very useful. Communication with the owner was always good. We would stay again!

Shiroyamakan was one of my favorite places during my trip to Japan! conveniently located near the bus station and at the beginning of the Shirakawa, it is a perfect place to start a tour of the city, the Ryokan as well as the room are beautiful and very well maintained, overlooking the river; the food was delicious with a creative selection of local ingredients, highly recommend and hope to return soon! Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The staff is so kind and the place is very serene. We had a good resting time in the very comfortable beds and enjoyed the bath and all the delicious food.

We really enjoyed our stay and were amazed by both the kind gestures from our host and the beautiful care that is taken of this home on the hill. There were kind kind touches throughout the guesthouse that we were so appreciative of and the care taken to provide such to guests were so clever and nice. The location is so great for the train station (truly 3 minutes away) and we found a nice restaurant close by on the night we arrived. I would describe the town as sleepy (meaning quiet). The ability to get to the Nakasendo so easily was very much appreciated.

This is an excellent property to stay in and feels like very recently renovated. Spotlessly clean, with all the facilities we needed. Cooking and laundry facilities are all new and easy to use with helpful English translations on the key buttons. The AC was very welcome given the time of year and very high temperatures. The location is only minutes walk from the older town streets with shops and places to eat. Also only about 5 minutes from a good supermarket, ideal if you want to do some ‘home’ cooking.
