My daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights in February. Ken san and Yuki san were delightful. The property was very clean and comfortable. They renovated the inn themselves and you can see care and attention in every detail from materials used to decor. The food was delicious and much of it was grown (rice) or made (plum wine) by Ken or Yuki. They provided great recommendations for restaurants and side trips. They ensured we were prepared with all the details required to ensure we had successful adventures. We are so lucky to have we picked the Sakonomichi. It was sugoi!!!

Very clean and organized and had everything you could need including soaps, laundry detergent, razors, etc. beautiful building! Wish we could have stayed longer.

It was a wonderful place, the rooms were SO nice. I have never slept this comfortable, the futons were amazing. The house itself had the old Japanese feel to it.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. This is easily one of the best places I have ever stayed in. And I have traveled a lot. The house is beautifully renovated, and furnished absolutely tastefully. Clean, simple lines, calm, attention to details, a Beauty, outside as well as inside. The colour scheme is warm, definitely warmer as the pictures on booking.com. The shared bath is pretty new and great. Always clean and free when I wanted to use it. The people are the heart of the house, and make you feel at home. They are attentive hosts, and they will drive you to and from Takayama at your convenience. The food...oh! The food! It's something special: please make yourself a favour and reserve the dinner. You will get the chance to taste special wines too. I had dinner two times, and they both were superb. It all felt luxurious and at the same time easygoing and relaxing. I cannot praise it enough.

We really enjoyed our stay and were amazed by both the kind gestures from our host and the beautiful care that is taken of this home on the hill. There were kind kind touches throughout the guesthouse that we were so appreciative of and the care taken to provide such to guests were so clever and nice. The location is so great for the train station (truly 3 minutes away) and we found a nice restaurant close by on the night we arrived. I would describe the town as sleepy (meaning quiet). The ability to get to the Nakasendo so easily was very much appreciated.

This is an excellent property to stay in and feels like very recently renovated. Spotlessly clean, with all the facilities we needed. Cooking and laundry facilities are all new and easy to use with helpful English translations on the key buttons. The AC was very welcome given the time of year and very high temperatures. The location is only minutes walk from the older town streets with shops and places to eat. Also only about 5 minutes from a good supermarket, ideal if you want to do some ‘home’ cooking.
