A charming house, beautiful and in a very quiet area. Fresh air and pure water. Hiro, the host, and his assistant Marie (a small gentle dog) are very kind. Hiro gave us some nice tips and restaurant recommendations. We felt right at home.

We stayed in one of the tatami rooms and enjoyed the comfort. The room has a sink, fridge, and microwave, and the shared toilet is barely a step away. (Shower is downstairs, still quite convenient.) But the real charm of Morino Garden is the host. Yuriko went above and beyond for us, offering rides, luggage storage, and even a meal we hadn’t booked. We felt as if we’d been welcomed into a home—as, indeed, we had.

Established in 1666, Honke Bankyu is housed in a registered historical building. The Japanese rooms feature traditional decor, futon bedding and a flat-screen TV. This is a fantastic hotel surrounded by nature (mountains, rivers and woods) and transpiring Japanese tradition. The hotel provides an excellent Onsen experience in a 300 year-old ryokan. The setup is essentially Japanese, so expect to sleep in futons, take off your shows and walk on slippers through tatami floor, and have Japanese meals (including breakfast). The kaiseki dinners are an absolute delight, and the outdoor onsen at night is the stuff of dreams. One may feel a bit daunted by the itinerary to the hotel, but it is truly easy to get there. Taking the Aizu Revaty train from Asakusa to Yunishigawa Onsen you then catch a 15 minute bus which will drop you off in front of the Hotel. All this information was communicated by the hotel ahead of our stay. One important tip: plan to buy the train tickets before the day of your trip, because they can be sold out. I am not sure if these tickets are sold online, so the safest way to buy them in advance is to go the tourist office at Asakusa station.

Everything you need for a weekend trip to Nikko is provided and the beds are outstandingly comfortable! Also the surrounding is so quiet, we slept very well. It is also very close to the stations which is convenient.

The location is very convenient - close to a bus stop and to Heiki no Sato. The room was spacious, clean and bright - very comfortable. We enjoyed the private bath. Although it was described as indoor, we were delighted to find that it had full-length windows looking out onto nature so it felt out door to us! The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. :)
