The staff was very nice and their english was very good (for western travellers). As it was my 1st time in an Onsen i dont know if others can be better but it was very comfortable. Also was i allowed in there with tattoos on both arms. The guest room was a little bit small but we didnt mind at all. We could fit in there with our whole luggage so it was fine. They also had a nice guest area where you could talk and exchange stories with others. All in all it was very pleasant stay and i can recommend it to anyone who wants to go to Japan. Thank you.

After reading the rave reviews, I booked this stay months in advance to make sure we would not miss the opportunity to meet Ken and Yuki and to stay at their guesthouse boasting modern facilities and balancing comfort and sleek design with traditional Japanese architecture and minimalistic and elegant interior design. At the end of a long day hiking, we were greeted with a big smile as if we'd come home to our family, a feeling that is both priceless and heatwarming. Ken's kind and welcoming nature is only rivalled by Yuki's and her sense of humor. Dinner was as delicious as our breakfast (all guests shamelessly went for seconds and some even thirds taking the lead for a brave lady I shall not name), enjoyed to the sound of Jazz standards in a communal spirit shared with the other guests, all of whom polite and considerate, as if handpicked by the hosts or perhaps instinctively mirroring their behavior. Guests do not have to wait to take a shower because there are three showers, one of which with an additional bathtub, for four rooms. Everything is impeccably clean and organized, making you feel restful instantly. So, do not hesitate to book this guesthouse as you make your way along the Old Nakasendo Road or just take a taxi to Magome and walk a few hundred meters to take photos for your Insta. Whether you fit the former or latter category, you will be treated as a family member by the kindest people we've met during our 3-week stay in Japan. I've already recommended this guesthouse to everyone I know who is planning to visiting Japan.

Very comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, quality toiletries, fantastic sauna, onsen, pool, phone chargers in every room etc. Relaxing place with Japanese flair. Fridge was prepared with soft drinks and beer.

A hot tub is available for guests, along with an open-air bath. Free private parking is available and the guest house also provides bike hire for guests who want to explore the surrounding area. The managers of the guesthouse were fantastic. There aren't any restaurants around the place without going near the principal place of Shimoda, but they proposed dinner. The night I was there we ate the fish that the man of the couple had fished three days ago, and it was delicious. I recommend this guesthouse.

The area is popular for hiking and cycling, and bike hire is available at the accommodation. Everything was amazing, superbe hotel with a view. Looking at Mount fuji during breakfast is an experience.

This 4-star hotel offers a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage space. The property is 300 metres from the city centre and 2.2 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village. We really enjoyed our stay here! We were graciously upgraded upon our arrival. We were hosted by Issekei-san (apologies if it was not the right spelling!). Parking needs to be reserved in advance. We suggest guests to reach out to the hotel ahead of time. It is 1000 yen per day at a parking spot near the hotel (1-2 mins walk). Issekei-san and his team demonstrated kindness and hospitality to me and my family by carrying our luggages from across the street (where I temporarily parked to get parking directions), and ensured that we were comfortable. He even made accommodations for us when other guests used up all the dryers such that we were able to complete our laundry by the end of our trip! The rooms and the onsens were also marvelous! The Machiya is truly worthy of its high rating. I'd visit Takayama again just for this hotel ^_^

I was the only guest staying at the property at the time. The room was spacious and would be perfect for even a longer stay. The shared facilities included a bathroom with a tub on the first floor, as well as a small kitchenette on the second floor. The cleanliness was top notch, I have no complaints. The owner was the friendliest ever. He gave me a ride to the Seven Waterfalls of Kawazu and had made coffee for me in the morning, even though I had to leave early to catch a train. I would recommend this accommodation to anyone traveling to Kawazu!
