Our stay at Sun Siyam Vilu Reef was amazing! Our first time in The Maldives, we had started out the trip with a few days in Male. Sun Siyam had offered free seaplane transfers for stays for 4 nights and more, and this was arranged from the hotel we were checking out from, to the airport, and to Sun Siyam. We were welcomed by our designated host for the stay – Sopa – who provided all information we needed, and kept in touch with us throughout the stay. We had booked a bed and breakfast option, and the in-villa dining was good for meals in the villa when we preferred to stay indoors. The buffet-style dining for dinner was great. The staff was very friendly, we had welcome drinks on arrival, and the villa was more than we could imagine. We had access to the beautiful ocean and went kayaking on one afternoon. We had a chance swim by with a baby shark and saw dolphins while watching the sunset. Our agent and housekeeper made the stay special.

It was our first time traveling to Maldives, so cannot compare this hotel to others, but the whole experience was terrific! If you stay in one of the In-Ocean rooms, you are basically staying in the middle of an enormous exotic aquarium. Any time you desire, you just jump into the water and see all kinds of marine life, including turtles, stingrays, baby sharks, octopuses, and all kinds of fish! We even watched a group of dolphins swim around the reef. The room we stayed in was huge, which made us feel like we could stay in the room our entire trip without feeling the need to go out. The staff was great, but we stayed here during Ramadan, which was extra tough on them, having to fast. Also, there is a baseline difference between hospitality in the US and Maldives; having said that I think they did a decent job. The food options were good, but not particularly memorable.
