Charles Bridge

This faithful friend has spanned the watery divide between the Old Town and Malá Strana for over 600 years. The stream of footsteps on the cobbles sounds out a restless beat, accompanying the myriad street musicians and performers. Bronze statues stand watch over the crowd, giving an eternal sense of grandeur to this most majestic of Prague’s bridges.

If you can, try visiting at least once during the night.

If you can, try visiting at least once during the night. There is only a normal amount of regular people actually crossing it and the whole ambience hits another note - the dark, the mist, the shadows and the statues...

Sunset is one of the best times to view the bridge and walk across. Make sure to check out the John Lennon Peace Wall when you get to the other side of the bridge. Check out the Good Luck St. John of Nepomuk statue - it is shiny where people rub it for luck.

This stunning bridge is pictureseque and like something from a postcard. However, especially on the weekends, it is absolutely swarming with tourists at all hours of the day and night, and so I would recommend getting there early in the morning (on a weekday) to maximise your visit. Otherwise, it's really hard to appreciate the architecture and history, and it is very busy with tourist-based vendors.

Amazing view and the way from the Narodni museum to the bridge is wonderful by walk. You get to see and experience different shops, eateries etc. It was raining when we were there so we didn't get to stay long on the bridge itself. But worth visiting.

This has been maybe the best apartment I ever stayed in. Very nicely furnished, spacious, quiet and literally next door to the National Opera and the river. The Tram stop is close, but you can easily walk to the old market and Charles Bridge in 15 min. We were 4 persons and enjoyed having 4 bedrooms, one of them with a very large bed. The communication with the host was excellent and very friendly. I will definitely stay here again when in Prague. Definitely recommended for small groups or larger families!

Love the location. There are plenty of food options around and Palladium Mall is nearby. Walking distance to all the usual must see spots like Old Town Square, Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge, Wenceslas Square. There's a tram stop just a few steps away from the apartments. The apartment was really well maintained and clean, the showers had good water pressure (which we all love). Reception/front desk people were really accommodating and friendly.

A very nice hotel located right next to Charles Bridge, directly opposite a grocery store and close to everything. There are tram and bus stops nearby with direct connections to the train station and the airport. The hotel is very clean and comfortable. Our room was extremely quiet — we couldn’t hear any street noise at all, although I assume this may depend on the room location

The hotel is situated not too far from the Old Town and Charles Bridge, but in a lovely quiet location in the Jewish Quarter. The hotel was spotless, all of the staff, from the receptionists to the breakfast staff, were only to happy to help with any queries and were all very courteous. I loved the mini pastries, that were freshly baked by the hotel's chef, and left in my room daily, it was a lovely treat to come back to after day of constant exploring. Also, a great selection for breakfast. The bed is also very comfortable.

The apartment was clean. The couch was very comfortable. The bed mattress was a little soft. But if someone likes that, then it's good. 🙂 Check-in was easy at the Hotel reception, which was about a 2-minute walk from the apartment. Despite the apartment being near the Charles Bridge, the flat was quiet. There is no elevator (lift), so whoever goes there should take that into account. 😉 The breakfast was very delicious and plentiful/abundant. I would especially highlight the roasted tomatoes and the pancakes. 🤗

Be prepared to wander off the beaten track.

Be prepared to wander off the beaten track. There are lovely gardens in Mala Strana and around the castle which are usually very peaceful. Petrin Hill is great for walking - it is steep, but there is a great funicular railway if you don't fancy the climb. The view rom here is lovely - and also from Letna Park, by the giant metronome. Stromovka is another nice park where you won't be tripping over other tourists and the area around Vysehrad tends to be quiet too. Prague Castle opens quite early and a ticket will give you entry on 2 days. Buy your ticket early to avoid the queues and give you time to see around everything. If you are an early riser, head to Charles Bridge before 10am to avoid the crowds. May is a great time to visit Prague. It is usually sunny, the cherry blossom is out and there are fewer tourists than in the summer. Avoid July and August when it is hot and crowded if you can.

Leave the tourist areas!

Leave the tourist areas! Get away from Charles Bridge and Old Town, find a little pub tucked away. Take the tram somewhere and go wandering. If you are in Old Town, check out the Koruna cafeteria (next to Hooters) for some cheap, delicious authentic Czech cuisine. It's where the locals go when they have to be in Old Town.
