Perhaps my favourite museum anywhere.

Perhaps my favourite museum anywhere. The top floor is always an exhibition of traditional life up in the high Alps. There is usually some kind of exhibition about some aspect of winter sports, and the rest are temporary exhibitions. It's in a 17th-century convent building (don't miss the chapel, with its wall and ceiling paintings) around a series of courtyards, which are the best places in Grenoble for your picnic lunch (tables and chairs in the cloisters, so possible even if it's raining, though I prefer outside); no cafe but machines for buying coffee, etc. Not far up the mountain (& v. close to city centre - just across the footbridge & then a bit higher up) but high enough up to get great views over the city.
