First, the location was perfect for our stays. We used the trains several times and loved that our walk to the station was less than 3 minutes. Second, the rooms (we had 2 different rooms) were quiet and dark (which we have at home and love); third, the rooftop bar/breakfast area was extraordinary! Fourth, the thoughtfulness in the design of the rooms did not go unnoticed - reading lights bedside, charging areas next to bedside, the solid wood door that slides to block daylight, the complimentary refreshments in the drawer, the hair dryer and straightening iron, robes and slippers. Lastly, it's a testament to the bedding and linens - my husband and I slept great, and that never happens at a hotel. We loved our stay!

The hotel was tastefully designed, the room has everything you need! The staff was wonderful, going the extra mile to guide and help me. As someone who visits Edinburgh for the first time, I had a great impression of the city and will definitely come back to this hotel if I’m visiting Edinburgh again! 😊

Edinburgh Castle

Stretching down 30 metres, this tree-like coral shelf lies at the centre of a beautiful garden of gorgonians. It’s in these plants that the rare pygmy seahorse sets up home, which makes Amed Wall your best shot of catching a glimpse. Reef sharks and sea turtles also roam these waters, so there’s no shortage of deep-sea wonders to gawk at.

Having a tour guide is recommended and you should plan on starting the tour around midday so that you get to see the canon firing at 1 pm. You do need to be able to walk on cobblestones and walk uphill. Not recommended for those in wheelchairs or with limited mobiity

In order to truly understand a country, it is essential to first become acquainted with its history, as well as its cultural and ethnographic heritage. The tour I took part in at Edinburgh Castle was led by an outstanding guide who skillfully maintained our interest throughout the experience. With a touch of humor, she presented only the most important and noteworthy highlights, making the tour both engaging and informative.

Love it!

Love it! Took us longer than anticipated to walk around due to the crowds, in September. We pre-purchased out tickets for 11 a.m. thinking we'd end with the 1 p.m. gun salute. However, earlier crowds were still there at 11 a.m. and it just got busier and busier. It became tough to really enjoy the exhibits and the interior rooms got quite warm (it was wet the day we were there so we were carrying jackets). There were also lines to get into various spaces. When we left at 2 p.m. the line ups to get in were wild and I can't imagine what their experience would have been like. I would highly recommend getting your tickets in advance for the earlier time slots, if you really want to enjoy the exhibits around the castle.

Not the most interesting castle. Fabulous views of the city.

Not the most interesting castle. Fabulous views of the city. Most of the interior has been stripped. The Crown jewels were absolutely nothing compared to The Tower of London exhibition. Very unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies all cobbles and slopes. Difficult with a stick. All in all a bit of a tourist trap all around the area.

We saw Edinburgh Castle on our last trip but there is always something new to see. Look for the room with the tapestries hanging from the wall - they took 13.5 years to complete. Missed that last time. There is a lot to see.

The hotel was in a great location off the main road but within walking distance of Princes Street and all the main attractions. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, room service was great. Loved the kitchenette space with everything provided and then restocked immediately. Comfy bed and spacious bathroom. We could see Edinburgh Castle from our window. We will definitely be going back again. They even had complimentary umbrellas for use when it rained!!!!

The hosts were very friendly and accommodating, allowed for early entry as our flight was in the early hours, and were contactable when needed. The apartment overlooks Edinburgh Castle and is located right beside the Grassmarket shops and restaurants. We only realised when leaving that the sightseeing tour bus stops in Grassmarket, opposite the stairs to the apartment. It's an ideal location; there are a lot of steps from Princess Street up to the Castle, but that is to be expected. Would return for the Christmas Markets.

Big room, friendly staff (especially the staff at breakfast!), restaurant/bar for dinner included, located near Waverley station and High Street, only a short walk from Princes St., the National Gallery and Edinburgh Castle. There was a construction site at the back of the hotel, so I was given a room facing the street, which was lovely!
