Ugh. If you're into Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks and Burger King on every corner you've found your place. Otherwise, honestly, skip it. There's a lot of history here, obviously, but it was lost in the crowds and the clutter. Sad.

On Dam Square, the Royal Palace exterior looks grotty but inside it was amazing. Pay an entry and be well pleased with what you get to see. The audio device was too soft for me but just follow the signs and look for yourself.

The perfect tourist hotel, nicely designed, fab location to walk in to Dam Square or the Rijksmuseum, but away from the noisy centre of town, very good breakfast and bar and super useful self serve kiosk. Rembrandt Square right behind for (some) pretty good restaurants and bars.

One of the best hostels I've stayed in. It's located near the center, 10-15 minutes walk from Dam square and Central Station. There is a metro at 500m. The area is quiet. It's spotlessly clean! The staff is very friendly, always there! Everything is new and renovated. Beds, toilets, bathrooms, sitting area with water and quick meals as well as games. There are lockers for your luggage after or before check-in. 2.5€ for 6 hours. Tips.. don't forget your card key in the room, try the hot chocolate😉

I have stayed here before on a few occasions. However, the hotel has had a revamp since I last stayed there. It is absolutely stunning inside. The reception and lounge area looks amazing. The bar is also stunning and the bar staff are both very knowledgeable in cigars and whiskey, and also incredibly friendly. All the staff in the hotel were super professional and very friendly. It's a great location, located next to Dam square.

The location is awesome. Dam square and other locations are super close by and it is connected by tram as well. Breakfast buffet was good but limited vegetarian options. The stairs in the hotel are a bit steep so be careful . I guess this is an Amsterdam thing so nothing to do about it.

Visit The Nine Streets 'De Negen Straatjes' for unique boutiques with the odd Abercrombie shop. I love the shoes here, try United Nude-pop up shops scattered around right now. I love De Bijenkorf (The Beehive), the department store by Dam Square for its one step ahead, soon to come homewares trends.

If you take a detour from the main shopping strip leading to Dam Square, there are a number of smaller shops for the more particular shopper. My favourite was what looked like a small musical instrument shop, but turned out to be huge. There was also a retro computer game shop that was a little expensive but had an amazing array of consoles and games.

Stay off the beaten track and away from places like Dam Square and the Red Light District. There are plenty of small cafes and restaurants close to the canals. Look for where the local people go to eat and take recommendations from your hotel. Always worth checking out the restaurants in the Internet before you go and always try to book
